Botox Parties. Dysport Parties. Good idea? by Dr. Jones

Jumbo shrimp, military intelligence, managed care?  What is your favorite oxymoron?  Right now, mine is “Botox Party”.  Despite its overall safe track record as a cosmetic facial enhancement, botulinum toxin (Botox, Dysport) is, nevertheless, a therapeutic medication.  To maximize your chances of a good outcome, a quiet doctor-patient communication and treatment session are, in my opinion, essential.  The celebratory energy and loud conversation of a party may adversly affect a patient’s health judgement.  If alcohol is served, the problem is compounded.  As a physician, I must have a completely sober, thoughtful, and articulate patient to make it possible for me to get the best results.  As a patient, you probably want your doctor to be completely sober and thoughtful too!  Once in awhile, you might enjoy going to a party.  You may also find that once in awhile you would benefit from receiving Botox or Dysport, but please don’t do them at the same time.
