Answer: Typically, one week.

QuestionWill my scars be big?

Answer: Depending on the degree of fullness , the scar may only be a few millimeters  for liposuction, a scar halfway around the nipple, or for the more advanced cases with significant skin laxity after weight loss, a scar along the breast fold.

Question: How long does the surgery take?

Answer: Between 2-4 hours.

Question: How soon will I be able to start working out again after my gynecomastia surgery?

Answer: Light aerobics may be started after one week.  More rigorous exercises shouldn’t be resumed for at least 2 weeks.

Question: What are the risks and complications of this cosmetic procedure?

AnswerAsymmetry or unevenness on each side or between sides is possible.   As with any surgical procedure, there is a small risk of infection,  bleeding or thick scar formation.

Question:  Will insurance help pay for gynecomastia surgery?

Answer: It is unlikely.  Although it is an emotionally distressing condition, there is rarely a medical necessity for the procedure.

Question: Does it matter what caused my gynecomastia condition?  Will that effect my results?

Answer: The results are determined by the amount of tissue or skin you have before the surgery.  The type of skin you have may also effect your results.  Any ongoing medical condition which promoted previous growth, unlikely in the majority of patients,  may continue to stimulate changes in the tissue.
