Procedure Information: Mini Tummy Tuck

Mini abdominoplasty, also referred to as a mini tummy tuck, is an approach through a more limited incision to accomplish some of the goals of  abdominoplasty or tummy tuck.  Through this concealed, shorter scar, the abdominal wall can be tightened, and a small amount of excess skin and fat can be removed.  Mini tummy tuck surgery can be coupled with aggressive liposuction to remove even more fatty tissue.

Mini abdominoplasty does not remove stretch marks above the belly button, nor does it provide access to most hernia sites.  These issues are better resolved through a  tummy tuck or extended tummy tuck procedure.

Mini abdominoplasty is done differently from an abdominoplasty.   With a tummy tuck or extended  tummy tuck, the belly button is usually circumscribed and preserved as an island on the wall, and a new aperture is created as the apron of skin is pulled downward.  In contrast, mini abdominoplasty may entail inclusion of the navel along with upper abdominal skin in the apron to allow an unimpeded view of the wall for tightening, then simply returned and attached to the wall.

Mini tummy tuck recovery period ranges from 7 – 14 days.  Usually swelling recedes over four months and scars are normally pink for up to 1 year following this cosmetic procedure.
