About Mini Tummy Tuck Surgery
Mini tummy tuck surgery is also referred to as mini abdominoplasty surgery. This cosmetic procedure offers modest improvements to women or men in Indianapolis and Carmel who have only a small amount of lower excess skin or fatty tissue, or wall laxities. This procedure targets excess skin and fat from the belly button downward, with the option of improving skin around the navel (sometimes with a slight downward shift in navel position), or wall muscle tightening.
Healthy patients who want to contour their lower abdomen and get rid of that pooch are ideal candidates for a mini tummy tuck. Patients looking to address a larger area of their abdomen often prefer the full tummy tuck procedure.
Candidates for a mini tummy tuck want to put the finishing touches on their ideal body after consistent diet and exercise. Candidates must have realistic goals.
A mini tummy tuck procedure is appropriate for patients planning to maintain their body weight after the procedure.
During your consultation, we will discuss your goals for the procedure. Tell us if you are taking any medications or supplements. We will examine your abdomen, evaluate your overall health, and look over your medical history.
We will create a surgical plan according to your goals. Medications and supplements may be stopped or replaced in preparation for your mini tummy tuck.
The best approach to take when deciding if a mini tummy tuck or mini abdominoplasty is right for you is to come in and speak to one of our surgeons in Indianapolis and Carmel. They will be able to discuss all options available to you and whether or not a mini tummy tuck will deliver the results you’re looking for.
DR’s Tip on The Drainless Abdominoplasty:
When asked what’s the worst part of having an abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, many patients will say the drains. A tummy tuck procedure gets rid of excess fat and skin to create a well-toned abdomen. In a standard tummy tuck, your body accumulates fluid between skin and fat layer and the underlying muscles, before the layers heal together. Small tubes are used to drain this excess fluid.
New developments and research show that quilting technique not only eliminates the need for a drain but also gradually tightens the skin al the way down to the tummy. In 2002, Drs. Harlan and Todd Pollock published their technique for a drainless tummy tuck, demonstrating how additional suturing of the abdomen obliterates the space where drains are normally placed. This concept immediately clicked for us.
Many patients had been holding off on the surgery because they were afraid of the drains. Others now say this drainless technique has made recovery easier. Most of all, they’re sending their friends and that’s the best recommendation we can get.
Before & After
Frequently Asked Questions
I need to lose 15-20 lbs. to be at my target weight. Should I wait to have my mini tummy tuck?
Any elective operation is both safer and more effective the closer one is to their ideal weight. This will be evaluated during your consultation. Specific instructions will be given to help you prepare for the mini tummy tuck procedure, including getting closer to your goal weight.
How big will my scar be?
The scar for a mini tummy tuck varies in its extent between hip bones, but shorter than the scar of a standard tummy tuck. This will be determined at your consultation. The scar will be placed low, just at the top of the pubic hairline.
I would like to have another baby someday. Will that ruin my mini tummy tuck results?
There is a possibility that pregnancy can re-create excess skin and cause loosening of the muscles.Unfortunately, this is an unpredictable occurrence. Patients who have pregnancy plans within a year or two may be advised to postpone the procedure.
It will be ideal to have the mini tummy tuck at least several months after giving birth and breastfeeding.
I have “love handles”. Will a mini tummy tuck remove those?
A mini tummy tuck procedure does not affect the “love handle” area. However, there are other procedures that can be recommended for treatment, for example: liposuction or extended tummy tuck.
Will I need to take narcotics for the pain after this cosmetic procedure?
A mini tummy tuck typically is less painful than standard tummy tuck. The one variable which really sets the pain level is wall tightening. If significant muscle tightening is done, a few days of narcotics can be helpful.
How soon will I be able to bathe or take a shower following my mini tummy tuck surgery?
Showering is fine the day after surgery. Aftercare instructions will be provided, including the “Do’s and Don’ts” the patient must observe during the recovery period.
