Mastopexy or Breast Lift Surgery in Indianapolis and Carmel
Breast Lift surgery (mastopexy) is an outpatient cosmetic procedure that raises, firms and reshapes the breasts. Unfortunately, as we age, most of us begin sagging in areas we wish we didn’t. Let’s face it, we can’t avoid it. And if you’ve had children, breast-fed, or lost a significant amount of weight, that just adds to the inevitable sagging of your breasts. Breast lift surgery can restore a measure of breast ¨perkiness.¨ You might even be able to throw away your uncomfortable, bulky under-wire bras and actually wear a pretty, lightweight bra again. Remember those?
My Plastic Surgery Group continues to be pleased with the satisfaction our patients experience after completing this surgery.
We have a unique approach to breast lift surgery and look forward to discussing this option with you. We look forward to accompanying you on this journey.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will I be able to breast feed after having breast lift surgery?Since the nipple is not detached from the breast glands during this cosmetic procedure, the breast should still function normally. However, for many other biological reasons, some women are unable to breast feed.
I’m a smoker. Will I have to quit before I have this cosmetic procedure?Since we are asking the skin to heal with a minimum amount of scarring, as well as other possible healing problems, we should not burden the body with chemicals known to inhibit healing and blood flow. Nicotine, literally, can kill skin. You must be off nicotine, patches, chewing tobacco and nicotine gum for 8 weeks before breast lift surgery.
Will I need drains following my mastopexy?Usually not.
Once I’ve had breast lift surgery, is it possible I will have saggy boobs again? We know how to set back the clock, not stop it. You will find that a mastopexy gives you a result far better than going without one and this will be lifelong. However, you will continue to age and experience sagging again over the years. A revision at a later date is a possibility.
Will I need to have a mammogram before breast lift surgery? If you have a significant history of breast cancer in your family or if you are over 40, a recent mammogram within the last year may be recommended prior to breast lift surgery
Is it dangerous to have breast or nipple piercing once I’ve had breast lift surgery? There are no additional dangers caused by surgery if you choose to have a piercing.
Will breast lift surgery increase my risk of breast cancer?Breast lift surgery does not increase or decrease your risk of breast cancer.
Will I lose nipple sensation by having mastopexy surgery?Sometimes a temporary loss is seen, having mostly to do with swelling. Permanent loss is uncommon.
Will I need to have breast augmentation at the same time in order to have fuller breasts, or will breast lift surgery achieve that too?A breast lift targets lifting what you have. A breast implant adds volume, nicely shaping the upper breast. Mastopexy and implant placement can be done together or separately.
Mastopexy, or breast lift, is an outpatient surgical procedure done to lift and firm the breast using incisions around the areola, vertically down the lower portion of the breast and, often, horizontally along the fold.
Should you have a breast lift? Ultimately, that’s a decision that only you can make. We hope, after speaking with us, you will have all of the information you need to make that decision. Commonly, it is the person who looks at themselves with clothes on, as well as with clothes off, and sees saggy boobs that used to be firm, perky breasts that will generally decide to have breast lift surgery. From years of experience our surgeons know that breast lifts are desired by women who have lost their breast firmness for reasons such as pregnancy, breast feeding, weight changes, medications, or prolonged absence of bra support.
I had previous surgery with this practice and was more than satisfied. I have sent several friends in for procedures. this is the only place I would go.

Recovery from breast lift surgery is very patient-specific. We expect that normal activities will be resumed as quickly as each individual can tolerate it. Swelling may last up to 6 weeks after mastopexy surgery and you should be prepared for your nipple and skin sensation to be altered temporarily. Rest assured, all of these issues and more will be discussed thoroughly during your initial consultation with the physician.
