G Spot Enhancement is the injection of soft tissue fillers such as Restylane in to the “G-spot”. The G-spot or Grafenburg spot is a region in the front of the inside of the vagina which is theorized to be involved in orgasm. This concept has been very controversial, and the enhancement of this area is even more controversial. In 2007 the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) released an official opinion on G-spot amplification as well as the so-called vaginal rejuvenation, designer vaginoplasty and revirgination procedures. They stated that these procedures were not medically indicated, nor was there any documentation of their safety and effectiveness. In fact the complication rate for these procedures is unacceptably high. ACOG is an organization very much like the ASPS (American Society of Plastic Surgeons). These organizations are primarily concerned with patient safety through distribution of knowledge and standards of care. ACOG does however believe that some procedures are medically indicated, including labiaplasty for the treatment of labial hypertrophy (increased labia size/bulk) or asymmetrical labial growth.
As in many areas of medicine there are “cross-over” areas of expertise. For example orthopedic surgeons and neurosurgeons perform spine surgery. In a similar way, both plastic surgeons being experts in soft tissue management, and gynecologists care for concerns in the genital region. There has not recently been an official opinion by the ASPS regarding these procedures, however we agree with the official ACOG opinion. We will always only offer procedures to our patients that are proven, safe and reliable.
