Conveniently located to serve Carmel and Indianapolis

When the forces of gravity take their toll on your face, especially your brow line, and you notice you no longer look rested even after a full night’s sleep, or you appear angry when you’re not, it can take its toll on you.

A brow lift , also known as a forehead lift, is a facial rejuvenation procedure performed by our surgeons in Indianapolis and Carmel that softens forehead scowling furrows and repositions a sagging brow so you look well rested, happy and refreshed.

According to the most recent report from the American Society Of Plastic Surgeons, over 43,500 brow lift or forehead lift procedures were performed by Board Certified Plastic Surgeons in the U.S. in 2010. Our browlift patients come from Indianapolis, Carmel and surrounding areas.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will my forehead wrinkles go away as a result of my brow lift surgery?

They may not, as the main benefit of brow lift surgery is lifting of the brow with secondary lifting of upper eyelid skin.
  • Is a brow lift only done as part of a facelift?

It may be done either alone or as part of a more comprehensive facial rejuvenation procedure, such as a facelift.
  • I have a receding hairline. How will that effect my brow lift surgery?

Standard brow lift surgery techniques may leave a visible scar. However, we offer a specialized technique with a scar concealed in the upper eyelid.
  • Can’t I get the same brow lifting effect from Botox or Dysport?

Injectables such as Botox and Dysport may result in slight elevation of the eyebrows, but those results would be much more subtle and shorter term than the results you would get from brow lift surgery.
  • How is a brow lift different from eyelid surgery?

Brow lift surgery usually includes scalp incisions whereas the upper eyelid surgery procedure will only produce scars to the eyelid area.
  • How do I know if I need brow lift surgery or facelift surgery?

Coming for a visit and consultation with one of our plastic surgeons is the best way to decide if brow lift surgery or facelift surgery is what you need.
  • Is there a lot of facial swelling associated with brow lift surgery?

Swelling in the upper face is common the first 5 days following brow lift surgery. Swelling diminishes daily.
  • How long will I need to be off work following cosmetic brow lift surgery?

Usually, it is best to allow 7-10 days before returning to work following brow lift surgery.
  • Will my hairline look different after brow lift surgery?

The hairline may or may not be affected, depending on the technique used. Discuss the technique options during your consultation with the plastic surgeon.
  • Will brow lift surgery take care of saggy eyelids?

Upper eyelid skin is usually tightened and lifted as an added benefit following brow lift surgery.
  • I am a smoker. Will I have to cut back before and after eyelid surgery?

Yes. Nicotine use can cause many problems including death of skin or skin loss. Increase in infection risks, delayed wound healing and higher risk of pneumonia following an anesthetic are all results of smoking. You must stop use of nicotine products at least 8 weeks in advance of browlift surgery.
  • Are the surgeons at My Plastic Surgery Group board certified?

Yes. Dr. Sando and Dr. Aker are Board Certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery and are also members of The American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Read the “About Us” portion of our website to learn more.

Procedure Information

It’s an unfortunate fact of life that with aging, eyebrows sag and foreheads wrinkle A browlift, or forehead lift, is a cosmetic surgical procedure which repositions sagging eyebrows as well as helps soften central forehead scowling furrows.

During this surgical procedure, there are a variety of incisions. Depending on the patient’s needs, incisions can be placed in the hair or at the hairline and can be single, multiple, long or short. All of these options will be discussed with you during your initial consultation. During that visit, it is important that you let your physician know if you have hypertension, take arthritis medication or blood thinners and have experienced hair thinning or loss.

Before coming to your office, I had already made up my mind to have surgery with Dr. Aker. I have worked with him in the operating room and have had previous surgery with him.

Browlift, or forehead lift surgery is done under outpatient anesthetic. The first week after browlift surgery, you should expect bruising and swelling. Numbness may persist for several weeks to months including areas of the forehead or scalp. There may also be some scalp tingling sensations. During your consultation, your plastic surgeon will make sure to discuss everything you can expect throughout your individual recovery period.
