Is over-the-muscle or under-the-muscle breast implant placement better?

The breast implant pocket can be either directly behind the breast tissue or behind the pectoral muscle which is behind the breast tissue. Dr. Aker prefers to place the implant behind the pectoral muscle to give the upper breast a more natural slope and graceful appearance.

Because implants can make some breast tissue more difficult to see, additional views or special imaging techniques may be used to obtain a thorough examination. Be sure to let the mammography facility know that you have breast implants when scheduling your appointment so they can plan accordingly.

Will my scars be noticeable after my surgery?

If the endoscopic technique is used, there will be no scar on the breast at all. With the inframammary approach, there will be visible scars in the crease under the breast, though they fade significantly over time.
