What is a brow lift?

A brow lift elevates sagging eyebrows, reduces forehead lines, and improves the appearance of droopy eyelids. The procedure helps to give patients a more rested and youthful appearance. A brow lift may also help improve visual field obstruction due to brow ptosis and hooded eyelids.

What is the endoscopic forehead lift technique?

This is a modern technique that involves smaller incisions and less scarring compared to traditional methods. The incisions are placed in the hairline and instruments are used to release brow and forehead tissue from their attachments to the bone. The brow and forehead are then lifted and suspended in a higher position. The result is a natural rejuvenation that can be seen immediately with a softer and more alert look.

How long is recovery?

The average recovery is about 2-3 weeks. Swelling and bruising last about 1–2 weeks. Most patients return to normal activities in 1–2 weeks.

Are the results permanent?

Yes, but aging continues. The lift can last 7–10 years depending on skin quality and lifestyle.

Who is a good candidate?

Patients with low/drooping or heavy brows, forehead wrinkles, or hooded eyelids who are in good health.

How do you know if you need a brow lift or eyelid surgery?

Eyelid surgery removes excess skin that hangs over the eyelid, while a brow lift elevates the eyebrow and relieves the effect of a drooping forehead that may contribute to hooding of the eyes. If you only have loose skin over the eyelid, a blepharoplasty may be the right procedure for you. However, if you also have a heavy or sagging brow, you may benefit from the combination of brow lift and eyelid surgery.

Will my forehead wrinkles go away as a result of my brow lift surgery?

They may not, as the main benefit of brow lift surgery is lifting of the brow with secondary lifting of upper eyelid skin.

I have a receding hairline. How will that affect my brow lift surgery?

Standard brow lift surgery techniques may leave a visible scar. However, we offer a specialized technique with a scar concealed in the upper eyelid.

How is a brow lift different from eyelid surgery?

Brow lift surgery usually includes scalp incisions whereas the upper eyelid surgery procedure will only produce scars to the eyelid area.

Is there a lot of facial swelling associated with brow lift surgery?

Swelling in the upper face is common the first 5 days following brow lift surgery. Swelling diminishes daily.

Will my hairline look different after brow lift surgery?

The hairline may or may not be affected, depending on the technique used. Discuss the technique options during your consultation with the plastic surgeon.

I am a smoker. Will I have to cut back before and after a brow lift surgery?

Yes. Nicotine use can cause many problems including death of skin or skin loss. Increase in infection risks, delayed wound healing and higher risk of pneumonia following an anesthetic are all results of smoking. You must stop use of nicotine products at least 8 weeks in advance of browl ift surgery.

Is a brow lift only done as part of a facelift?

It may be done either alone or as part of a more comprehensive facial rejuvenation procedure, such as a facelift.

Can't I get the same brow lifting effect from Botox or Dysport?

Injectables such as Botox and Dysport may result in slight elevation of the eyebrows, but those results would be much more subtle and shorter term than the results you would get from brow lift surgery.

How do I know if I need brow lift surgery or facelift surgery?

How long will I need to be off work following cosmetic brow lift surgery?

Usually, it is best to allow 7-10 days before returning to work following brow lift surgery.

Brow lift, or forehead lift surgery is done under outpatient anesthetic. The first week after brow lift surgery, you should expect bruising and swelling. Numbness may persist for several weeks to months including areas of the forehead or scalp. There may also be some scalp tingling sensations.
