Unique Approach

Why Choose MPSG for Your Blepharoplasty

“A blepharoplasty consultation is about much more than excess skin around the eyes. My goal is to understand what specifically bothers the patient and then carefully evaluate the upper and lower eyelids, brow position, skin quality, fat distribution, and the relationship of the eyelids to the surrounding facial structures. Many patients feel they look tired, heavy, or older than they feel, and the consultation allows us to determine the underlying causes of that appearance and whether surgery, or sometimes a combination of surgical and nonsurgical treatments, is the best solution. The objective is not to change how someone looks, but rather to restore a more refreshed, rested, and natural appearance while preserving the unique character of their eyes and face.”

“An upper blepharoplasty removes excess skin in the upper eyelid that contributes to heaviness or hooding. I focus on achieving a natural result that helps patients look like a more rested version of themselves.”

- Dr. Di Beckman

“My goal in eyelid surgery is not to change your eyes—it is to reveal them. By combining careful anatomical analysis with a conservative, individualized approach, I aim to restore a rested, natural appearance while preserving the features that make each patient uniquely themselves.”

Upper Blepharoplasty

What is upper eyelid surgery?

It removes excess skin, fat, and sometimes muscle from the upper eyelids to improve vision and appearance. An incision is made in the natural eyelid crease, and loose skin and fatty tissue is excised.

What are the benefits of eyelid surgery?

This surgery can create a more awake appearance and help to reveal the natural beauty of the eye. It will reduce and improve fine lines/wrinkles and crepey skin of the eyelid. Your eyes can appear brighter, refreshed, and more youthful. A smoother upper eyelid may make it easier to apply makeup. Removing excess skin from the upper eyelids may also help to expand your field of vision.

What is the recovery like?

Swelling and bruising may be present in the first several days following the procedure. Ice packs are recommended, however patients do not typically experience much discomfort after this procedure. Sutures may be removed in 3-5 days. You may return to work in one week and more strenuous activities can be resumed at 3 weeks.

Are results permanent?

Yes, though natural aging continues, the improvement lasts many years. Upper eyelid lift scars are concealed in the natural crease where they are not noticeable.

Who is a good candidate?

Patients with droopy eyelids, excess skin or folds of the eyelid, or bulging fat affecting vision or aesthetics.

How do you know if you need eyelid surgery or a brow lift?

Eyelid surgery removes excess skin that hangs over the eyelid, while a brow lift elevates the eyebrow and relieves the effect of a drooping forehead that may contribute to hooding of the eyes. If you only have loose skin over the eyelid, a blepharoplasty may be the right procedure for you. However, if you also have a heavy or sagging brow, you may benefit from the combination of brow lift and eyelid surgery.

Lower Blepharoplasty

What is lower blepharoplasty?

Surgery to remove or reposition fat and tighten the lower eyelid skin to reduce under-eye bags and contour irregularities. Depending on the patient’s needs, the incisions are either placed within the lower eyelid (transconjunctival incisions) or just below the eyelashes along the lower eyelid. Typically dissolvable sutures are used.

What is fat transposition or grafting?

Excess fat can be repositioned to fill hollows, or harvested fat is injected for smoother contour and volume restoration.

What is the recovery like?

Swelling and bruising peak at 3–5 days and improve over 1–2 weeks. Makeup can often be used to cover residual bruising.

Are results permanent?

Yes, though subtle changes can occur with aging. Fat grafting can settle slightly over several months.

Who is a good candidate?

Patients with under-eye bags and muscle/skin laxity of the lower eyelid who are looking to improve the contour of the midface for a natural and refreshed look.

Questions & Answers with Dr. Aker

The Specifics

Blepharoplasty Procedure Details

The Goal of Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a cosmetic surgery procedure to remove excess skin and fat from the upper and/or lower eyelids. Blepharoplasty rejuvenates the appearance around the eyes. Aging causes descent of fatty tissue and commonly causes eyelids to droop and puffy bags to develop under the eyes.

Upper Eyelid Surgery

Droopy eyelids require upper eyelid surgery which involves making an incision within the natural crease of the upper eyelid, trimming away excess skin, repositioning fat deposits and tightening the muscles and remaining tissue. A common complaint from patients requesting information on eyelid surgery is that they feel like they look tired all the time, or they look in the mirror and see droopy eyelids. After eyelid surgery, you can expect a rejuvenated look. Most of the time, upper eyelid surgery can be done under local anesthetic in our office.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

Lower eyelid surgery is handled differently from upper eyelid surgery and usually needs to be done under general anesthesia. This cosmetic procedure is done by making an incision just below the lower lash line, or from inside the lower eyelid. Through these incisions, excess skin and fatty tissue can be removed from the lower eyelid.

Recovery and Results

Prior to each procedure, we want our patients to be in generally good health. Excessive dryness, history of glaucoma, or prior Lasik procedure may affect the safety or results of blepharoplasty surgery. These and many other topics will be discussed in a personal consultation with your plastic surgeon.

After eyelid surgery, you will probably only experience mild discomfort. Bruising will usually last about one week, possibly a little longer with lower eyelid surgery. There will be some swelling, and how long that swelling lasts depends on the individual. Ice packs, head elevation, avoiding strenuous activities and minimizing salt intake during the first week will help reduce the swelling. Sutures are removed within one week. Overall, recovery after eyelid surgery is reasonably simple.

The Cost of an Eyelid Lift

Upper blepharoplasty pricing typically ranges from $4,000–$4,500 depending on surgical complexity and individualized treatment planning. A consultation is required to provide a customized surgical quote.
